Can I purchase two rail passes for a 4 week visit?

Hello, I have two questions.

  1. Although I have not planned our itinerary yet, we will be in Japan for 4 weeks in March & April to follow the cherry blossoming from south to north. If we wish, can we purchase two rail passes for this trip such as one 7-day and one 21-day pass to use back-to-back? Later on, I will ask for help with an itinerary check.

  2. I have heard of the Sunrise Express, but having trouble finding information on it. Can I use JR Rail Pass? How much extra for a sleeper? Any free overnight option like there is heading north to Aomori? Can you direct me to a link?

Thank you!

Hi Nancy,

1.) Yes you can! There is absolutely no limit to the amount of passes you can buy or use! Getting two passes can be a great way to see Japan, especially if you plan to stay in a certain place for a longer period of time.

2.) Do you mean the Sunrise Izumo/Seto? You can use this train for free with the JR-Pass on normal and Nobi-Nobi seats. For sleeping compartments you will have to pay an additional fee depending on luxury class.

Hope this helps!
