we will spend 6 days in tokyo and 4 days in kyoto, then back to tokyo for flight. We want to take the bullet train to and from kyoto. We expect to do local travel within the cities for visiting museums and various sites. is a pass less expensive than purchasing bullet train tickets for round trip? Our travel dates are August 2-15. Thank you, M
buy pass for tokyo to kyoto and back and local travel?
Hi there,
The price of a 7 day JR Pass is just below that of a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the bullet trains. Still it's really easy to make savings with it from there. For instance, going to Narita Airport or using it for local travel in Tokyo or make a day trip.
Within Tokyo the JR Pass can be used to reach most of the city. In Kyoto there are only a limited number off lines, covering the south and west of Kyoto. Other (non-JR) transport is required to get around.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
