Order Your JRPass

Hi,

I was planning to buy a 14-day JR pass, but I did have a query as to how it calculates the times.

I'm landing in Osaka at 21:30 on Feb 10th and I'm leaving Tokyo at 22:30 on Feb 24th.

Does the 14 days start from when I land in Osaka (that is, sometime on the night of the 10th) and hence last until I leave Tokyo?

Or will it activate from the start of the day (00:00) on Feb 10th, and hence lapse before I leave on the 24th?

Regards,

Hi there!

Japan rail pass validity is measured in days, rather than hours. This means that if you choose to start your rail pass on the 10th, it will expire on the 23rd.

If you are only planning on going into Osaka on the night of the 10th, I suggest buying regular tickets for that and starting (activating) your Japan rail pass on the following day (11th) to give you full coverage until you leave.

Hope this helps!

I should add that you can choos your start date on activation at the JR ticket counter in Japan, so you are not locked into a specific start date, provided you exchange your jr pass within 3 months of purchase.

Hope this helps!
