I've an January 2015 itinerary as follows:
Day 1: Arrive at Haneda airport - go to Izu for self-drive Day 1 & 2
Day 3: from Atami to Gotenba to Shizouka to Osaka (staying at InterContinental Osaka)
Day 4-5: Osaka sighseeing
Day 6: Universal Studio then enroute to Kyoto (staying at ANA Crowne Plaza)
Day 7: Visit Arashimaya & Gion
Day 8: Visit Nara, enroute to Tokyo (staying in InterContinental Tokyo Bay)
Day 9: Tokyo - Yokohama - Tokyo
Day 10: Tokyo - Hakone - Tokyo (use Hakone Free Pass)
Day 11-12: sightseeing within Tokyo
Day 13: Depart from Haneda

I was thinking to activating a 7-day JRPass from Atami.Or is it more worthwhile to get a 14-day pass?
Using Google map directions doesn't give an optimize JRPass routing. Would you be able to advise details of train lines/Shinkansen lines for the above itinerary to . In google map direction, if JR in not indicated, does it mean JRPass cannot be used.

Thanks much

Hello there,

Yes a 7 day JR Pass sounds like the best plan to me as well. Using it from day 3 - 9, this would maximize your savings and make great use of the JR Pass. Personally I'd recommend using www.hyperdia.com for planning your train trips as it has a "JR function" which will make planning very easy.

I also checked your route and all rail travel is covered by the JR Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
