I will be backpacking throughout Japan this July for two weeks and wanted to know if I should get the 7 day or 14 day pass based on itinerary.

  • Fly to Narita
  • Narita -> Tokyo (7/24-7/29)
  • Tokyo -> Kyoto (7/29-7/31) day trip to Nara
  • Kyoto -> Osaka (7/31-8/03) possibly take a day trip to Kobe)
  • Osaka -> Takayama (8/03-8/04)
  • Takayama -> Tokyo (8/04-8/07) possibly take a day trip to Nikko or Hakone

Would be cheaper for me to get a 7 day JR rail pass and either a Suica or PASMO card while in Tokyo?

Thank you for any suggesstions

Hi there,

A 7 day JR Pass would work well if you can be back in Tokyo before it expires. This would work using it from 7/29 to 8/04. You would cover all your travel within this period and make good savings at the same time compared to purchasing normal tickets.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
