Hi there,

I'm a bit confused of the easiest route to use JR pass and to cover as much places as possible.

Option A

June 5 - Tokyo to Hakone-matsumoto-Kawaguchiko
June 6- Hakone-Nagoya-Hiroshima (is there shinkansen from Hakone/matsumoto to Hiroshima?)
June 7-Hiroshima-miyajima-kyoto
June 8- Kyoto-Kobe
June 9-Kobe-Osaka
June 10-Osaka
June 11-Osaka-Tokyo

Option B

June 5-Tokyo to Hakone-matsumoto-Kawaguchiko
June 6-Hakone-Kyoto
June 7-Kyoto-Kobe
June 8-Kobe-Osaka
June 9-Osaka
June 10-Osaka-Hiroshima-miyajima
June 11- Hiroshima-Tokyo

I plan to use Shinkansen to each city and do you think it is possible? or do you have a better route for me?

Thank you so much

Hi there,

We've got a very useful map here with all lines covered: http://www.jrpass.com/map

You can also get an idea of all the Shinkansen lines in Japan.

As for your route, I think option B is better as there is less travel time but consider dropping Kawaguchiko, it ads a lot of extra travel time/cost and Hakone is a great alternative. If you really want to add something else, consider adding the Izu peninsula instead.

The Shinkansen will get you to most cities, also good to know is that the Shinkansen station for Hakone is called Odawara station. From there Shinkansen go down south to Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima. Matsumoto does not have a Shinkansen station but has a limited express connection with Nagoya, making it possible to access the Shinkansen that way.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your reply. So on June 5th can I make my route from Tokyo to Hakone- Matsumoto(1 night)- Nagoya-Kyoto? It is better for me to sleep at Matsumoto or just make it as a day trip and sleep at Hakone?

Thank you.

Best regards,
Hannah

Hi Hannah,

I recommend staying in Matsumoto. This makes the most sense when it comes to the route travelled.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Dear Daniel,

I'm trying to understand on the Hyperdia, I can see there is fares for each stop. Does it cover by JR Pass or we have to incur more cost? As for the Matsumoto to Nagoya, does the limited express covered with Jr Pass?

Thank you.

Regards,
Hana

Hi there,

The JR Pass covers all fares in Hyperdia, as well as for the route Matsumoto to Nagoya.

Hope this makes it clear :)
Daniel
