Hello, can you please confirm how the pass expiration work?

  1. Plan to activate the JR pass in shin-Osaka for travel to Tokyo on Saturday at 9:00 AM.

  2. Spend time in Tokyo and travel to Takayama on Wednesday.

  3. Will be leaving Takayama and travel to Kyoto on Saturday at 8:30 AM. (In reality, the 7 days JR pass will expire Saturday at 9:00 AM)

The JR pass should cover all travel? I do not need to pay additional ticket price when arriving and exiting Kyoto station on Saturday. Please confirm

Thank you

Pat

Hi there,

The JR Pass is counted in 7 consecutive days and the first day is counted as a full day, no matter what time you start using it. For instance, activating the JR Pass on a Monday will mean that the last day of validity will be the following Sunday. Please keep this in mind when planning your travels.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
