Hi all, i am going japan in August 21st to Sept 2nd 2016 and would like to know if I need a 7 days JR or 14 days JR.

Day 1 :Arrv NRT airport, will depart to OSAKA
Day 2: Osaka
Day 3: Osaka
Day 4: Osaka
Day 5: Unsure where to go( perhaps kyoto or any suggestions?)
Day 6: Unsure where to go( perhaps kyoto or any suggestions?)
Day 7: Unsure where to go( perhaps kyoto or any suggestions?) , depart to tokyo.
Day 8 : Tokyo (NAGANO)
Day 9 : Tokyo (AKITA)
Day 10 : Tokyo (shop around tokyo)
Day 11 : Tokyo (shop around tokyo)
Day 12 : Fly home

Therefore should i use the 7 days JR from the first day and end it on 7th day and use Suica till day 12?
Any suggestions to where i can go from day 5 to 7?

Thank you

Hi there,

Looking at your itinerary now, I would suggest a 7 day JR Pass for the latter part, travel to Nagano, Akita and Tokyo.

The first part you could spend around the Kansai Area, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe and Wakayama. This is a very nice area and travel costs within Kansai are low. So buying normal tickets is no problem. Then use a 7 day JR Pass for your longer distance travel and make the best savings possible.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you so much Daniel San!

Here is an update on what i think is the best course of itinerary. Need your awesome advice on this.

Day 1 :Arrv NRT airport, will depart to OSAKA
Day 2 to Day 6: Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe (Should i purchase JR KANSAI PASS?)
Day 7 to Day 9 : Nagano (Purchase JR PASS)
Day 10 to Day 13 : Tokyo

Therefore i will be going to Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, Nagano & Tokyo.

I have been to Tokyo and nagano before so I know where i should be going.

HOwever do you have any suggestions where to go for Osaka, Kyoto, Nara & kobe?

And is the weather during August 21st to Sept 3rd 2016 very hot ?

Thank you

Hi again and sorry for the late replay!

I wrote out a couple of example itineraries that cover Osaka, Kyoto and Nara. I hope you find them useful to get an idea of what you can find in each city.

In Kobe, I highly recommend going up on mount Rokka, either hike or by ropeway. You can see all of Kansai on a clear day. Other great visits in Kobe include, china town, the local Sake breweries and the waterfront promenade. At the same time, a Kansai Area pass could be useful for travel to Kobe and Nara. Though generally the Kansai area pass requires at least 2,000yen worth of travel per day to be economical.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

The weather in August is generally hot and humid, so prepaid well.

For transport, a JR Pass would be very helpful for travel to Osaka and also covers travel within Kansai. You could also include a visit to Hiroshima with and also to Nagano and back to Tokyo.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
