Hello all,

I have been doing some research on whether or not it would be worth it to get a JR pass and I am hoping someone can help me. Here is our itinerary:

July 18 - arrive in Narita, go straight to Kyoto
July 21 - depart Kyoto to Tokyo
July 23 - depart Tokyo to Narita to fly home

I appreciate any advise you can provide me! I tried to use Hyperdia to calculate the fares but for some reason cannot figure out how to make it work.

Thanks so much!

Hi there,

A JR Pass will be a good option for your travels here. Have a look at the following:

Narita Airport - Kyoto ¥ 2,820
Kyoto - Tokyo ¥ 13,400
Tokyo - Narita Airport ¥ 15,980

For a total of ¥ 32,220 or at least ¥ 3,110 in savings with a 7 day JR Pass (¥ 29,110). The JR Pass is also valid for local JR lines in Tokyo and can be used in Kyoto for a limited extend. Adding even more.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
