Hi,

My name is Johnny Chua from Singapore, me & my wife will be making a daring move to travel to Japan for a holidays.

We have already purchased our 14 days JR Rail Pass but need your kind assistance for our trips as follow :-
a) We will be travelling by Japan Airline from SIngapore on 27/3/16 and will be staying at Radisson Hotel near Narita Airport for 2 nights.
b) On 29/3/16 to 31/3/16, we will be going to Hakone to stay for 2 nights at Hakone Gora Onsen Aoiso ( need your advice how to travel there as we have JR Rail Pass - where to change tickets and which train to take and from which station ?)
c) On 31/3/16 to 2/4/16, we will be going to Kyoto to stay for 2 nights at APA Hotel (also need your kind advice, how to travel there as by JR Rail Pass - where to change tickets and which train to take and alight at which station and what connection is require?)
on 2/4/16 to 5/4/16, we will be going to Osaka to stay for 3 nights at APA Ville Hotel, Yodoyabashi ( same guidance ) d) On 5/4/16 to 6/4/16 will be going to Kobe to stay for 1 night
e) On 6/4/16 ro 7/4/16 will be going to Hiroshima to stay for 1 night
f) On 7/4/16 ro 10/4/16 will be leaving from Hiroshima to Tokyo and will be staying at Shinjuku Granbell Hotel for 3 nights (need same guidance from you)
Lastly, we will depart Tokyo on 10/4/16 evening flight back to Singapore, can we still use the JR Rail Pass (if we exchange the pass on either on 30/3/16 or 31/3/16, which train go to Narita Airport ?)

These are our most daring trips to Japan on our own thus need your great help to guide us through. We heard from friends that we can exchange all the Shinkansen tickets at one go and also keep the tab for other local trains or ferry usage in other part of Japan.

Thanking you,
Yours Faithfully,
Johnny Chua

Hello Johnny Chua,

1.) While I can understand staying your first night near Narita to relax after your flight, consider traveling on to Tokyo the next day. Simply because there is not a lot to do around Narita and you can spend your time better elsewhere. You can of course make a day trip into Tokyo if you have the JR Pass.

2.) First travel to Tokyo station using a local line or the Narita Express, from here you can use the Shinkansen bullet train to Odawara station for Hakone. From Odawara I would ask your accommodation for the best way to access the hotel, as local travel in Hakone can be a bit complicated.

3.) Return to Odawara station, from where trains depart directly to Kyoto station. The APA hotel is within walk able distance from Kyoto station. For Osaka, take a local train from Kyoto station to Osaka station and from there the subway to Yodoyabashi (subway is not covered by the JR Pass).

4.) You can still use the JR Pass if you have a 14 day JR Pass, as the JR Pass is counted in constitutive days.

As a bit of general advise, also look up the access direction up on the websites of the hotels you visit.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Jonny,

That looks like a well planned itinerary. While I unfortunately do not have enough time to write a full route description for each hotel. Here is some good general advise.

1.) Use https://maps.google.com to look up your hotel. This way you have a map of where to go and you can find the closest station easily.

2.) Have a look at the hotel website for access information/route information. The hotels are local and know best how to access the area. Simply google: Hotel name + access and you will find a lot of useful information.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

From our last stop at Hiroshima Washington Hotel in Hiroshima, can you please do guide us how to travel by Shinkansen from Hiroshima Washington Hotel to Shinjuku, Tokyo. Is there a direct shinkansen or must we change another train ? Please do advise.

Regards
Johnny Chua

Hi Johnny Chua,

Make your way first to Hiroshima station using any kind of local transport, from there use the Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka and transfer to the Hikari Shinkansen bound to Tokyo. At Tokyo station, transfer to the JR Chuo line, bound for Shinjuku. From Shinjuku station you could walk to your hotel or use a taxi if there's a lot of luggage.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
