Hello,

my partner and I will be travelling to japan in january next year, and I was wondering whether we should get a 14 or 21 day pass? Here is our itinerary:

12-jan: arrive in Nagoya, train to kyoto
13-16 Jan: Kyoto, with day trip to Nara somewhere in there
17-Jan: Train Kyoto to Hakuba
20 Jan: Train Hakuba to Tokyo
21-25 Jan: tokyo with day trip to Hakone and general travel thru Tokyo
25 Jan: Fly to Sapporo
26-30 Jan: staying in Sapporo, travelling to nearby snowfields throughout
30 Jan: fly to Tokyo, Train to Nagoya
31 Jan: fly to australia

Hi there,

I would advise the 14 day JR Pass. It's perfect for travel from Nagoya to Kyoto, Hakuba and more. After you fly to Sapporo there won't be much train travel. Basically a one way trip Tokyo - Nagoya is what you would need, this is ¥ ¥11,080. The upgrade from 14 to 21 day JR Pass is ¥ 12,960 So it would be slightly cheaper now to buy a normal ticket, however you could consider the 21 day JR Pass for the extra flexibility, as the upgrade would quickly pay off if you did a little more travel with it.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
