Hi,

My itenary for Japan would be the following
Arrival: 14.05. Kansai Airport - going to Nara (activate JR??)
14.05. - 16.05. Nara
16.05. - 20.05. Kyoto
20.05. - 24.05. Tokyo

I want to use Kyoto as my central point to travel around a little bit and would therefore need the trqin ticket there. if i validate the JR pass on 14.05. i can stil travel to Tokyo with it (7th day) does it make sense to be without the JR pass in tokyo and just travel around with metro? Or what would you recommend?

Hello there,

I must say that for your itinerary it would be better to buy normal tickets as you travel, as this is slightly more economic than using a JR Pass. This because the JR Pass is best used for longer distance travel such as Tokyo - Kyoto.

If you do have a 7 day JR Pass already, than it would be best to use it from the 14th to the 20th. This way you could make the best possible savings. Within Tokyo transport is not very expencive, so it's fine to buy normal tickets or look at day passes.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
