Hi,

I am coming to Tokyo in 3 weeks and need to decide whether I need a JR pass or not as per my itinerary.

Tokyo.
Kawaguchiko [ Its a day trip. For this I will be taking the highway bus. So JR pass is not needed]
Tokyo - Tsumago
Tsumago - Kyoto
Kyoto - Nara - Kyoto [A day trip]
Kyoto - Naoshima [A day trip]
Naoshima - Tokyo

Also, is the pass valid within Tokyo on trains as well? What all trains are included? What is most suitable and cheaper for my travel? A JR East pass or a JR Nation pass?

Your help is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello NZZ,

A JR Pass could certainly be helpful here! Especially for Tokyo - Tsumago - Kyoto - Naoshima - Tokyo. Especially if you could fit it within a 7 day JR Pass. The JR Pass covers all JR trains nation wide, have a look at our map to get a feel of what is included.

The JR East pass is mostly valid for travel north of Tokyo, you itinerary is only south of Tokyo and the JR Pass is the only pass which covers this area.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
