Would I benefit from a JR pass?

I arrive in Toyko in the afternoon on May 19 . I will be staying there four nights with a day trip to Nikko on the 22nd.

May 23 - Tokyo to Kawaguchiko for 2 nights
May 25 - Takayama for 1 night
May 26 - Kamikochi for 2 nights
May 28 - Kamikochi to Magome, Gifu

Also, to get to Takayama, would you recommend I take the train to Nagoya and go that route? Or travel from Kawaguchiko to Matsumoto and take the highway bus to Takayama (2.5h)? The latter I believe is cheaper and a shorter trip.

Arigato!

Hi there,

I would buy normal tickets for this route. A lot of travel is done by bus (which would not be covered by the JR Pass).

Having said that, I would also use a Highway bus to Takayama.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
