Which JR Pass should I purchase? 7 or 14 Day Pass?

Hi there,

We'll be travelling to Japan for the first time from 7th to 21st September. My plan for the trip is likely:

7/09 : Narita - Tokyo

11/09 : Tokyo - Hakone

13/09: Hakone - Kyoto

15/09: Kyoto - Osaka - Kyoto

17/09: Osaka - Nikko

19/09: Nikko Tokyo

With this plan I'll definitely need a JR Pass, however the question is which one, 7 or 14 Day Pass?

Would be much appreciated if someone can give me a cost comparison between the two!

Thanks in advance!

Sebastian

Hi there,

I think a 7 day JR Pass with a bit of tactical planning would be the best. You could use the JR Pass from 13/09 to 19/09. Then use local tickets for your travel around Tokyo and Hakone. For travel to and within Hakone, you could look at using a Hakone Free Pass.

The Shinkansen station for Hakone is called Odawara, from there you can activate the JR Pass and use it to travel directly to Kyoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
