What pass to get?

Hi!

For a 5-day trip that's based in Osaka but plans to travel to Kyoto, Nara and Himeji, would you recommend to:
A. Buy the 7-day JR Pass?
B. Buy the JR Kansai Wide pass?
C. Just use the ICOCA card for the whole trip?

Or, you might have other recommendations?

Thanks!

Hi,
A JR pass would be a big waste. The Icoca card is convenient but offers you no real savings. You could make a Kansai Wide Pass pay off, but not by much. You would likely get more value from the JR Kansai Area Pass, but you could not use the bullet train on it to go to Himeji.

So it's up to you - if you want to save some time, get the Kansai Wide Pass. If you want to save more money, then the Kansai Area Pass would work better. There is also the Kansai Thru Pass where you can get around on pretty much any rail line in the area except JR. But it would take a bit more time on it to get to Himeji.

So consider them all and choose which you like best.

Good luck.
