Using JR Pass for my Itineray

Do you think it is worthwhile to get the 7 day JR pass if we plan on visiting the following cities:

Osaka, Nara (maybe?), Kyoto, Tokyo. We could probably fit in another city as we follow the route back to Tokyo. Do you have any suggestions?

We will be arriving at NRT/Tokyo and planning on heading to Osaka the same day. We will return to Tokyo on the 7th day before the pass expires and will stay there until we leave Japan.

A question regarding the pass - if we activate the pass at 2 pm on the day we arrive, for example, will the pass be active until 2pm on the 7th day or will it just expire on the 7th day?

Thank you!

Hello there,

That looks like a classic itinerary, one very popular for first time visits to Japan and you just can't g wrong with it. The JR Pass will also help you make savings, given that you cover at least the return Tokyo - Kyoto/Osaka with it.

The JR Pass validy is counted in full days and the first day is counted as a full day, no matter what time you start using it. The pass will expire at midnight on the 7th day (just like Cinderella).

If you are looking for a place to stop at before returning to Tokyo, the Hakone Area is very popular and you can have a great view of Fuji from there as well.

Hope this helps,
