Hello,

I am planning to visit Japan from October 8th to 21st, 2015.
My itinerary is :
Tokyo 6 days
Kanazawa 1 1/2 day
Kyoto 3 days
Hiroshima 1 day
Osaka 3 days

Is this itinerary too much for 2 weeks?

Should we get a JR PASS? What are the prices for regular tickets that the JR Pass does not cover? Is it too late to get the JR Pass shipped?

Hotels are also really hard to find is it better to just try and find one, once I get over there?

Hi there,

Quick answer: yes you can make very good savings with a JR Pass over purchasing normal train tickets.

Going a bit more in detail: The JR Pass works best for travel between different regions in Japan, such as travel between Tokyo - Kanazawa - Kyoto - Hiroshima - Osaka. I recommend using a 7 day JR Pass for this part and then buy local tickets for the rest.

For shipping time please see:

There are always hotels to be found, unless there's a local festival or big event. Then you should book months in advance :)

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Do u still suggest a 7 day pass if I plan to go to Hakone and Nikko?

If I already purchased a 14 day pass can I change it for a 7 day.

Rookie mistake 😕

Hi again!

Well a 14 day JR Pass is a fantastic choice if you include a day trip or two. Especially Nikko is nice and it can be pricey getting there without a JR Pass. So you are completely fine with a 14 day JR Pass. If you really want to make the best of your trip. Consider adding a visit to Himeji Castle as well. It has just finished a long restoration program. Additionally you can use the 14 day JR Pass for travel from Narita Airport and within Tokyo too, so you are perfectly fine with it!
