Hi there!

My family (2 adults, children 15 and 13) is coming to Tokyo this Thursday and we are planning to stay there for 10 days. We want to travel around Tokyo but also would like to go to Nikko, Kamakura and Fuji. As most days we probably spend in Tokyo, what is the best and let say "the cheapest" way of travelling with you? To say the truth, JRPass for four people for 7 days seems very expensive if we don´t travel away from Tokyo every day. Thank you.

Hi there,

It is indeed better to look at local tickets or maybe an area pass if you plan to stay around Tokyo. You can also simply buy day tickets for the Tokyo Metro or a Tobu Nikko Pass for travel to Nikko.

The JR Pass is best when travelling slightly longer distances, think of a return Tokyo - Kyoto for instance.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
