Hi, I need help in choosing how to travel around Japan. Here is our itinerary:

  • arrive 23rd Sept staying in Tokyo 24th Sept

*travel to Kyoto on 25th 26th 27th 28th 29th 30th (we will take some day trips out whilst there)

*travel from Kyoto to Hokone on 1st Oct

*travel back to Tokyo on 2nd Oct and fly out on the 3rd

Sorry I meant Hakone not Hokone.

Hello there,

I've pinned your itinerary to a map here. Have a look at it and you can see the Tokyo, Kyoto and Hakone (Odawara station) are all on the Shinkansen (the blue line). So it will be very easy to travel around.

Depending on the side trips you make, consider using a 7 day JR Pass. This covers all the Shinkansen above and many many more local trains. Personally I would recommend a day trip from Kyoto to Hiroshima.
