Hello !
I am arriving at Tokyo NRT airport on 18th April at around 9 am.
I am planning to buy a 7 days rail pass.

Is there a direct train available from NRT to Himeji ?
What is the frequency of train to Himeji ?
Can i get a reserved seat on this train ?

Also for return journey on 20th April, is there a train available from Himeji to Tokyo city after 6 pm?
If not, is there a train on 21st April from Himeji to Tokyo city after 7 am ?

Where can i find train time table ?

regards,
Vaibhav

HI there!

Here are some answers for you:

Is there a direct train available from NRT to Himeji ?

While there is no direct train from Tokyo Narita to Himeji it is a simple enough trip, with a single change at Tokyo station onto a bullet train. Here is a suitable sample itinerary for you.

What is the frequency of train to Himeji ?

Narita Express trains run to Tokyo every 30 minutes, and there are suitable Hikari Bullet Trains every hour (at 3 minutes past the hour).

Can i get a reserved seat on this train ?

Yes - Reservations are free for Japan Rail Pass holders. For more on how to reserve seats, please see our blog post

Also for return journey on 20th April, is there a train available from Himeji to Tokyo city after 6 pm? If not, is there a train on 21st April from Himeji to Tokyo city after 7 am ?

Yes there are suitable trains after 6pm, with the last train departing at 7:18pm, here is a selection of routes. If you are unable to make this train there are many on the 21st departing after 7am.

Where can i find train time table ?

You can look up train timetables and costs for all of your legs at the Hyperdia travel planning website and learn how to use Hyperdia for Japan Rail Pass holders through our video blog.

Hope this helps!

Hyperdia is the quick and easy way. For planning your trip, there is:

https://www.jrpass.com/blog/visit-himeji-home-of-the-most-beautiful-castle-in-japan

The castle is the main sight to see. Don't miss the Kokoen Garden next to it. Visiting Mt. Shosha is nice too.

If that is still not enough, there are many places close by. Just a bit past Miyajima is Iwakuni with its iconic historical bridge and mountaintop castle. Onomichi is famous for its temple tour and wildly ornate Kosanji Temple. Nearby Kurashiki is a famous own city for its canals, and Okayama also has its own castle and one of Japan's other Top 3 gardens, Korakuen. If your kids are itching to explore, then in Kagawa there is the Konpirasan Shrine in Kotohira, with a marvelous paved mountain hike.
