Hello! I have several questions regarding this:

  • I've ~3 days to explore both: Do you recommend it? Is it sufficient time?
  • If I could stay for a night at only one of the above, which would you recommend? Kawaguchiko or Tateyama?
  • What's the best route? Kawaguchiko first? Or Alpine Route first from Tokyo?
  • How do I get from Kawaguchiko to Tateyama without needing to go back to Tokyo?
  • What's the recommended time I should arrive at Tateyama if I wanted to stay for one day only?
  • Same for Kawaguzhiko, to catch the Fuji Shibazakura Festival?

Thanks in advance!!

Hi there,

While possible, 3 days would be quite short to do this. I would definitely stay near Tateyama, as it is furthest away from Tokyo. You could spend the night there, then do the Alpine route the following morning.

You will then finish the Alpine route near Shinano-Omachi station. From there use a local train to Matsumoto, then transfer to the Azusa ltd. express train bound for Shinjuku, get out at Otsuki and from there use the Fujikyu line to Kawaguchiko. (Note that doing this + the full Alpine route is very hard to do in a single day). I would stay 1 night at the end of the Alpine route or near Matsumoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Whoops, one more question! Do you reckon a JR pass makes sense for this trip? Or are separate tickets better?

Hi again!

For this one I would stick to normal tickets :)
