June itinerary

Hello everybody,

This my first time visiting Japan with my family.
I would appreciate a lot if you could comment on my itinerary for my trip in Japan regarding the usage of JR pass. .

Here are the days and cities:
Tokyo - 3 Nights, Arrival
Hakone - 1 Night
Kyoto - 3 Nights
Osaka - 2 Nights, Depart

Any recommendation for sightseeing places for above itinerary?
Which day pass will be applicable for this trip, 7 or 14 day pass?

Thank you so much for any help!

Hello there,

I think that it would be best to buy normal tickets for your itinerary. The JR Pass works very well if you travel a couple of times on the Shinkansen. In the above itinerary this is basically limited to a one way trip Tokyo - Osaka with stop overs. This means that you would not be able to make savings with the JR Pass.

have a look at this 7 day itinerary it resembles yours and has recommendations for each place to visit.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi,

For your time in Tokyo, consider taking a day trip to Nikko or Kamakura/Enoshima. For your time in Kyoto, 3 nights is good, but you might want to take a half day to see Japan's finest castle, Himeji.
Since you are already seeing Tokyo, you can largely skip Osaka during the day. After the temples of Kyoto close down around 5PM, you can zip over to Osaka for the evening. At night the city comes alive and has some great places to see, such as Dotonbori, plus the night views from the Umeda Sky Bldg, and Abeno Harukas Bldg are wonderful. Instead, you should definitely take a day and see Nara - the Todaiji is a must see place!
