Husband and I are first timers in Japan in September. Just doing an itinerary check to see if the two week JR Pass will save us money. Everything I'm reading and piecing together seems to say that it would, but I just want to be sure.

Fly/Arrive Tokyo Narita Airport Tokyo (3.5 days) Mt. Fuji/Kawaguchiko (1.5 days) Kyoto (3 days) Koyasan/Temple stay (1.5 days) Osaka (1.5 days) Tokyo (1.5 days) Narita Airport - Travel home

The ".5"s are me allowing for travel time.

I also really want to throw in a day trip to Chiba/Mt. Nokogiri from Tokyo on one day. It just really depends on if we'd rather do more Tokyo or something else -- but I know we would definitely get more use out of the JR Pass that way.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Hi there,

Thank you for reposting your itinerary. This makes checking it a lot easier :)

I checked your itinerary and for now I would recommend the 7 day JR Pass. Most of your expensive travel is betwen travelling from Tokyo - Kyoto and from Osaka - Tokyo. Since is is within a 7 day period, I would use the JR Pass to cover that and buy local tickets for the rest.

You could also consider the 14 day JR Pass if you did a little more rail travel. For instance if you did visit Chiba or made a day trip to Nikko.

Hope this helps!
