Hi, I plan to visit Japan from 30 - 8 Jun 2016, I plan to purchase JRPass but not sure whether need to buy NEX as well.

This is my itinerary :
30-1 June : Tokyo
2 June : Kanazawa
3-4 Jun : Kyoto
5 June : Kyoto - Hakone
6 June : Hakone - Nikko, back to Tokyo in afternoon
7 June :Tokyo
8 June : Back to Jakarta Morning at 11 japan time

pls advise - when should I activate JRPass? and do I need to purchase round trip NEx pass?

Thank you!!

Hi there,

A JR Pass would definitely be worth it for your trip, because you will do a lot of travel.

You could buy a NEX return ticket but you could also use the JR Pass for one way and simply buy normal tickets to return to Narita Airport, tickets for local trains are as low as 1,200yen but either way would work.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
