Hi there

We are a family of 5 (2 adults and three children ages 6,8,11) travelling to Japan for two weeks from on 23 sept to 7 October and are unsure whether to purchase the JR pass or just pay as we go and possibly get regional passes for Nikko etc. Are you able to help decide the most economical way to travel?

Our itinerary is as follows:

23 SEPTEMBER Narita airport to ryogoku station to mejiro station
24 Tokyo
25 Tokyo
26 Tokyo - Mejiro station to Disneyland station return
27 Tokyo
28 Mejiro station to Nikko
29 Nikko
30 Nikko
1 OCTOBER Nikko to hakone
2 hakone
3 hakone
4 hakone to Kyoto
5 Kyoto
6 Kyoto
7 Kyoto to Osaka airport

Hi there,

I checked your itinerary for the best match and recommend buying normal tickets as you go. The amount of long distance travel is limited and you'd have to do a little more travel for a JR Pass to help you make savings.

That said, you can look at local passes to make some savings. Think of the Tobu Nikko Pass and Hakone Free Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
