Should I purchase

We'll be in Japan for 7 days (group of 5). We'll arrive in Kansai Airport at around 8pm. We plan to visit Tokyo and stay there for 3days 2nights, and then go back to Osaka and visit Nara and Kyoto which are nearby for about 5days 4nights. Is it worth it to buy JR passes for this? And also, would we be able to travel to Tokyo as soon as we arrive at Osaka? We arrive at 8pm there.

I appreciate any help. Thank you so much!

Hi there,

Yes, a 7 day JR Pass is recommended for sure! The cost of a 7 day JR Pass is about the same as a normal return ticket Osaka Tokyo. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price. Any additional travel is basically free and that adds up to a good amount with 5 people traveling.

Public transport in Japan shuts down around midnight to resume the following morning around 6 am. It will not be possible to travel on to Tokyo with a 8pm arrival. I would advise staying near Kansai Airport, Kyoto or Osaka stations and traveling on the following morning.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
