Hi there,

I have a plan to in this November 2016 (18-27)
Day 1. Arrival Haneda apt
Day 2. full day visit Tokyo
Day 3. Tokyo - Nikko
Day 4. Nikko - Tokyo - Toyama
Day 5. Toyama- Kanazawa
Day 6. Kanawawa - Shirakawa go - Kanazawa - Kyoto
Day 7. Kyoto
Day 8. Kyoto
Day 9. Kyoto - Osaka
Day 10. Osaka - departure (AM flight)

I tried your JR Pass calculators and it is not work with 7 days Pass. I am thinking of Nikko 2 days Pass and Arch Hokuriku Pass 7 days (Day 4-10), but the total single tickets seems to be lower than the Pass.

Am I right?

My questions:
1. With Nikko Pass, if I am back from Nikko right on first day, can it be OK? As I found that Pass is cheaper than return ticket from/to Tokyo (Tobu train)
2. With Arch Hokuriku pass, am I sure to have seats on train? or by chance only? Or I buy Pass and have to book all seats in advance? If the train I want have no more seat to reserve?

Thank you for your kind advice by return

Hi there,

Its indeed cheaper to buy normal tickets if you travel one way between Tokyo - Osaka.

For Nikko, a Nikko Tobu pass can be a good option for budget travel to and from Nikko.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel,

Then I would not buy JR Pass or Arch Hokuriku Pass 7 days. Do you know any kind of pass suitable for my section Tokyo- Kyoto?

Also, for Nikko Tobu Pass, I understand that for return Tokyo- Nikko - Tokyo, I will be on Tobu train, but not train with Express on name, only with Rapid or Local, correct?

For exemple, I found TOBU LTD. EXP KEGON 1 OR Tobu Skytree Line Section Exp. for TOBU-DOBUTSU-KOEN, it is not included in the pass, or if I have to pay surcharge, how much would be?

One other Tobu Skytree Line Section Rapid for TOBU-NIKKO is OK? included in the Pass?

Sorry for being complicate, but it is going by train in Japan,

Thank you for your kind advice,
Bumxiu

Hello Bumxiu,

Outside the normal JR Pass, there is no pass that would cover the route from Tokyo to Kyoto.

Yes, its just valid for local trains but you can get a discount if you want to use a ltd express service.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
