Hi, I am travelling to japan next month with 3 other people and was just wondering if it is worth purchasing a JR 7 day pass and when should we activate it if we do?
Itinerary:
Fly into Osaka Kansai airport
Osaka 19th june - 23rd june (going to universal studios while we are here)
Kyoto 23rd june - 24th june
Tokyo 24th june - 28th june (planning to go to disneysea while we are here)
Departing Narita airport

Thankyou!

Hello there,

For this route I recommend buying normal train tickets during your travels.

A JR Pass works great if you would do more longer distance travel. A return Tokyo - Kyoto for instance will nearly pay for the pass alone. However you'll be travelling one way and it is simply more economic to buy normal tickets.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thankyou!

We will be travelling around tokyo, osaka and kyoto while we are in each place and would probably be using the train lines to get to each place. Do you still think it is worth just buying individual tickets?

Yes, local travel is not very expansive. Its really the longer distances where the JR Pass shines.
