Dear Daniel,
I was browsing some past posts and noticed that you have suggested Gala Yuzawa to some guests. I am Planning 2nd trip to Japan on 4 Dec - 13 Dec ( midnight flight). Was in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto for short visits. This trip is initiated by my son's passion for cars. My son wants to attend the Nismo festival on 11 Dec. Can I know if we are to purchase any entrance ticket/pass for this event which is going to be held in Fuji Speedway? Also need your advise on my itinerary. Arriving on 4 Dec night. Spend the 5th in Tokyo, 6 to Osaka. In Osaka, plan to visit the castle and do day or half day trips to Nara and Kobe or even Kyoto. 8 Dec planning to leave for Takayama/Shiragawago or even Kanazawa.10 Dec will leave for Tokyo. 11 will spend whole day at the Fuji Speedway. 12 Dec planning to visit Yokohama/Kamakura. Hoping to see snow at Shiragawago. Or Gala Yuzawa will be a better choice!

Do you think I am trying to do too much at such a short trip. Getting the JR pass will help me with this fast pace itinerary. I look forward to receiving your reply. Thank you!

Hi Karen,

Shirakawa-go and Gala Yuzawa are quite different sort places to visit. Shirakawa-go is an old style village you can visit and experience how people used to live in rural Japan. Gala Yuzawa is a modern winter sport resort, mostly visited for Skiing and the like.

I am not really familiar with the Nismo festival but it looks like you can purchase tickets via: http://www.nismofiesta.com/

It does sound like a lot of travel to me, I'd advise writing it all out on a day by day itinerary plan. For instance day 1 Tokyo, day 2 Kyoto etc. This will help you organise and find the areas that are too busy.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
