Hello
We're taking a trip in January 2015 (7days) landing in Haneda Airport at 10:00pm from USA. We want to go to Hakuba Ski resort for 3 days then to Tokyo. Your suggestion for simplest and fastest route.
Do trains and buses run all day and night?
This is our first trip to Japan and understand the rail pass is the way to go.
Please advise. Thank you so much!

Hello there,

Transport shuts down after midnight, so you'll have to spend the night in Tokyo unless you fancy driving yourself.

From Tokyo it is pretty easy to get to Hakuba. There is a ltd. express train directly from Shinjuku station in the morning. The JR Pass covers the train to Hakuba. Alternatively it is possible to use an express bus (not covered by the JR Pass).

Hope this helps,
Daniel
