Hi, I am in Japan for 3 weeks flying into Narita. My travels are taking me to:
Narita - Tokyo
Tokyo - Nikko
Nikko - Hakone
Hakone - Takayama
Takayama - Kyoto
Kyoto - Osaka (probably a few times)
Osaka - Kyoto
Kyoto - Hiroshima
Hiroshima - Tokyo
back to Narita
I don't have a vehicle around town so was hoping to use trains locally as well

Should I get a rail pass for 21 days?

Hi there,

The answer is yes, there is plenty of travel in your itinerary and are multiple long distance trips that are very expansive without a Japan Rail Pass. You can also use the JR Pass on local JR lines in most major cities, than there are other nice perks, such as the tourist bus in Hiroshima and ferry to the close by Miyajima island, these too are included.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
