We arrive at Kansai Airport around 8pm on November 15. Our return trip is on November 22 at 8:40pm. We plan to visit the nearby areas Kyoto and Nara, as well as Tokyo.

We've already decided to buy JR passes. Now, we're planning to go immediately to Tokyo to start our tour there and then go back to Osaka on November 18 (afternoon) to resume touring the nearby cities until the end of the trip. This way we're nearer to the airport.

My question is, would it be better to start our tour in Osaka and then go to Tokyo and then go back to Osaka for our last day? How long does the travel usually take between Osaka and Tokyo via JR bullet train?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
It would be far better and safer to spend your last day and night in Osaka, instead of returning back straight from Tokyo to KIX. You can get from Osaka to Tokyo or vice-versa in about 3 hours by bullet train if using the JR Pass.

You can see regular fares, routes and schedules on Hyperdia.
Under "More Options", be sure to uncheck the Nozomi box since you can't ride that train using the pass.

Good luck.
