Osaka to Narita Airport

Hello,
I'll be visiting Tokyo, Kyoto and then Osaka before making my way back to Narita Airport for my flight home.

After studying the benefits and savings, I will definitely buy the 7-day JR Pass when I arrive at Narita Airport on 23 Feb 2016. My first use of it, I understand, would be the Narita Express to Shinagawa before transferring to the Shinkansen (Hikari or Tokaido Shinkansen?) for a journey to Kyoto. A few days later, I will take the special JR express train to Osaka (still covered by the JR Pass).

Now, on the return journey, could you please advise me what I should do? I will be staying around Osaka Station. Should I do the reverse of my earlier journey (Osaka by express train to Kyoto, then the Hikari or Tokaido Shinkansen to Shinagawa, and finally, the N'ex to Narita Airport?

Thank you for your attention and assistance in advance.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2016!

Best regards,
Speedy Teh

Hello Speedy,

I agree with your assessment, using a 7 day JR Pass works very well.

From Osaka, there are a couple of options for returning. I think the one that makes most sense, would be to travel to Shin-Osaka station and using the Shinkansen directly from there to Tokyo. You can then use the NEX to return to Narita Airport.

Just to avoid confusing, the Hikari is the name of the train, while the Tokaido is the name of the route that you will travel between Tokyo - Kyoto/Osaka.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel again,

I read somewhere that JR Pass holders are not able to take the Nozomi Shinkansen. Is this correct?
When I checked the Shin Osaka Station to Shinagawa/Tokyo Station route, somehow the shinkansen plying this route is the Nozomi. Appreciate your advise again.

Thanks and regards,
Speedy Teh
