Hi,
We are landing in Osaka, travelling to Kioto, travelling from there to Takayama and from there to Tokyo. Our return plane leaves from Tokyo. Does it make sense to buy the Japanese rail pass? Is the transport Kioto-Takayama and Takayama-Tokyo also covered with this ticket?

Thanks!

Hi there,

The JR Pass covers all of these routes but it would be slightly cheaper to buy normal tickets.

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

Thank you for the information.
I have been checking the route from Takayama to Tokyo and it seems we have to take the LTD express to Nagoya and from there the Shinkansen Nozomi 128 to Tokyo. I have read however that The Japan Rail Pass is not valid for Nozomi line... Is it not valid for the shinkansen we have to take from Nagoya to Tokyo? What trains could we take from Takayama to Kyoto which are covered by the JPRpass? Thank you for your help!
