Osaka - Kyoto - Tokyo - Mt. Fuji - Other side trips

Hi! Do you think we should just get a JR Pass for our trip? We will be in Japan for 7 days and here's our itinerary.

We are generally staying in Osaka for 3 days which includes a day trip to Kyoto and maybe Nara too. Then we are transferring to Tokyo on the 4th day and might be going for a daytrip to Mt. Fuji before going to the airport on the 7th day.

Will it be best to purchase a JR Pass? And how long is the JR ride from Osaka to Tokyo? And is it still possible to purchase the pass if the trip is next week already?

Thank you.

Hello!

I checked the route for you but think that it would be best to buy tickets as you travel. A JR Pass can quickly help you make savings it you make a return Tokyo - Kyoto/Osaka. However since you travel one way it is better to just buy a one way ticket. The trip Osaka - Tokyo takes about 160-180 Minutes.

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much, Daniel!

One last thing, we are 4 people going on this trip. Is it still cheaper to get tickets while travelling around given than we are taking the bullet train from Osaka to Tokyo and the metro for all side trips?

Thank you so much for your fast response!

Yes, the Metro is not covered by the JR Pass, so I still think it would be best to buy normal tickets. You could consider using an IC card such as SUICA to make your travel more convenient.

Hope this helps too,
Daniel
