We have book a direct flight to Nagoya and intent to travel for 2 weeks starting from here. The places we plan are from Nagoya - matsumoto - Takayama (Shirakawa-Gero) - Kanazawa - Kyoto - Osaka - Kobe - Nagoya. Is it too much for 2 weeks and which is the best way to travel. Thank you

Hi there,

I certainly think this would be possible for the allotted time. It would of course depend on how much time you wish to spend in each place. What you could do for instance is:

Nagoya 2 days - Matsumoto 2days - Takayama 2 days (including Shirakawago) - Kanazawa 1 day - Kyoto 2 days Osaka 2 day - Kobe 1 day - Nagoya rest.

Of course you can change days around a little, spend a day more in Kanazawa (and one less in Osaka) for instance.

Let me know if you have any concerns regarding the route.

Thank you Daniel for your reply
I have a rough plan now and wonder whether it is worthwhile to buy the JRpass or just buy it when needed. My plans are this
Nagoya to Matsumota (stay 1 day) to Shinano Omachi, Omachi onsenkyo to Alpine Route to Murodo (stay1 day ) Murodo to Takayama (stay 1 day), Takayana to Kamikochi and back to Takayama then to Shirakawa go and back to Takayama and onto Kyoto and back to Nagoya. Is there a flexible Pass ie buy a 7day pass to be used within 2 weeks since we may be staying 1 or 2 days in one place before going to the next. Your advice please. Thank you

Hi Again!

To see if a JR Pass would be worthwhile I made a little list with ticket prices:

Nagoya - Matsumoto ¥ 3,260
Matsumoto - Shinano Omachi ¥ 650
Murodo to Toyama - Takayama ¥ 1,620
Takayama - Kyoto ¥ 9,980
Kyoto - Nagoya ¥ 5,640

Note that I left some parts out, as they are best traveled by bus (such as the way to Kamikochi). As you can see prices around Takayama are not that high and they all together would not add up for a JR Pass, so I would suggest buying tickets for this one. This may also allow you to stay a day extra somewhere.

I hope this helps!

Hi Daniel san

Thank you for the advice, we shall book the ticket as and when we need instead of getting the JR Pass.
I hope there are tickets available and there is no need to book in advance.
Bye!
