Hi all,

I am planning on going to Nagoya, Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto (then back to Nagoya). We are starting in Nagoya because we have some friends there. If we are spending between 8-10 days there, would a rail pass save money? What type of ticket would you suggest for Nagoya to use the subway (we will be there for 3-4 days). It's been many years since I've been there. Many thanks in advance!

Hello M,

Using a JR Pass alone for travel in Nagoya does not make a lot of sense. However you can make nice savings if you would use a JR Pass to visit Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo.

For travel within Nagoya I would use an IC card, the one in Nagoya is called Manaca. This is basically a prepaid travel card that makes it easy to travel around.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
