Nagasaki to Himeji to Osaka to Mount Koya to Kyoto in 3 days?!

Thank you for reading my post. Recommendations and feedback most appreciated.

I will be travelling from Nagasaki to Himeji to see the castle then on to Osaka the same day. From Osaka I would like to go to Mount Koya the next day for one night then finally on to Kyoto. Does this seem reasonable in terms of travel time?

Thanks.

Without knowing a full itinerary it's impossible to say if a JR Pass is worth it. At any rate for travel time, going from Nagasaki is the longest, taking around 4½ hours. After seeing the castle (and next door the Kokoen Gardens are well worth it too) you could see Osaka, which really comes alive in the evening. There is Dotonbori, plus the night views from the Umeda Sky Bldg and Abeno Harukas Bldg are wonderful:

To get to Koyasan, read this info.

To go to Kyoto from Koyasan takes just over 2 hours. One day in Kyoto is hardly enough to see all this city offers though.

Hello there,

Doing Nagasaki - Osaka in one go is a long route. So it's a great idea to make a stop at Himeji. It's not that much further to Osaka, so you can take a late train there from Himeji.

Also like the idea of spending a night at Koya-san, this way you get the best experience and join in with the temple rituals.

From there, Kyoto is also not too far. To travel there, return to Osaka station from where there are direct trains to Kyoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks so much Daniel-san. I will be staying in Kyoto for one week after Mount Koya. This information is very helpful and will make my trip planning so much easier. Thanks again Daniel-san.
