Hi,

We will be arriving in Tokyo with my husband and 2 boys (9 y/o and 7 y/o) on Jun2 2016.
Main purpose of this trip is to ride the Shinkansen. Given our very tight schedule, can you recommend which places we can go on day trip and maximize our JRPass?

6/2 - Arrival at Narita, will stay in Tokyo (if you got suggestion which area to stay will appreciate)
6/3 - Disneyland
6/4 - Tokyo to ?? (day trip)
6/5 - Tokyo to ??(day trip)
6/6 - Tokyo to Universal Studios (is this even feasible?)
6/7 - Departure

Is it even worth to buy a JR Pass or not given our tight schedule?

Thanks.

Hi there,

If you want to visit Universal Studios (USJ), consider staying a night in Osaka on 6/5 and then visit USJ the following day before returning late the Osaka. Its about a 4 hours travel from Tokyo, so making a day trip is not recommended.

You could also make a day trip outside of Tokyo to get the best value out of the JR Pass, think of Fuji, Yokohama, Kamakura or Nikko.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Using HyperDia, I noticed that only Fuji and Nikko will be using Shinkansen Trains. My son's are looking forward to ride Shinkansen Trains. I also noticed there are other transfers needed to reach the destination. Are they all covered by the JR pass?

If we do consider just going day trips to Fuji and Nikko, will it be worth to buy a JR pass?

Hi again!

The JR Pass would be worth it if you travel to Osaka/USJ but not just for Fuji or Nikko. The JR Pass does cover the Shinkansen lines.

Hi Daniel,

Maybe we will just go for day trip to Fuji and another day to Nikko.
Where can we buy the Shinkansen tickets if JR Pass won't be a good idea?

Hi again,

You can purchase tickets at any JR Station. Just go to the manned ticket window.
