Making several day trips

Hi

I have booked accommodation in Tokyo for the 2 weeks that I will be in Japan. I am planning to get the 7 day pass and make individual trips every other day to Kyoto, Osaka and Mt.Fuji. Would it work well to do day trips? I understand that I will need to get early/late trains. Are there any other places that you would recommend visiting?

Also, I have thought about visiting either Disneyland or Universal Studies but read on some forums that I'd be spending most of my time queuing. Are these places work visiting?

I will be in Japan from mid August for two weeks. Thanks for you help!

Hello there,

Using a 7 day JR Pass for a return Tokyo - Osaka already pays for the pass and you can make great savings if you travel each day.

There's of course a lot to see in do in Tokyo already. If you want to make other day trips, then Nikko, Kamakura and Yokohama make for perfect trips, without adding too much travel time.

I've visited Disneyland and Universal Studios without finding any queues, however it does depend on the day of travel. Weekends and National Holidays are much busier, same for school holiday periods.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Going to Osaka as a day trip would be terribly inefficient with over 6 hours of a day sitting on a train - you should spend the night there (preferably several). There are numerous day trip near Tokyo that are worth visiting though. Nikko, Kamakura/Enoshima, Hakone, Kawagoe are all good possibilities. And while staying a night there is better, going to see Kanazawa is also within reach. Sendai is only 90 minutes or so one way as well.
