Hi,

We are staying in the Ekoin Temple in Koyasan for a night and then the next day we are travelling to Karasumaoike in Kyoto to stay in the Hearton Hotel.

What is the best train to get there on and can we use our JR Pass at all to get there?

Thanks
Conor

Hi there,

You'll be able to use the JR Pass to get to Osaka station, where you'll need to transfer to the non-JR Nankai operated lines, for the rest of the journey up to and back from Koyasan station.

Here is a simple itinerary from Kyoto to Koyasan and back to Kyoto that you can use.

Hope this helps!

Hi Mari,

So because we can use our JR Pass to get to Koyasan to Osaka and from Osaka to Kyoto, is it cheaper and easier then for us to go from:

Koyasan --> Osaka --> Kyoto (Karasumaoike)?

Using Hyperdia.com here is my Itinerary from Koyasan to Osaka
Then from Osaka to Karasumaoike

Hi Conor,

There's probably not a lot in it, but yes - as soon as you get onto JR operated tracks the travel will be free with the JR Pass. So if you aim to get to Osaka first and then make your way to Kyoto you'll have more control over the exact trains you use.

The itineraries you list look good to me!
