Since your itinerary is not round trip a 7 day JR Pass would not pay off. Plus you are missing a lot of the very best of Japan with your plan (presuming this is your first time seeing Japan).
I would suggest something like:

day1 - Arrive in Japan; see Osaka. Take the Nankai Airport Line from KIX to Nanba.
day2 - See Kyoto
day3 - See Kyoto
day4 - See Nara
day5 - See Himeji Castle, Kokoen Garden next door, & Mt. Shosha
day6 - Go to Tokyo
day7 - See Tokyo
day8 - See Tokyo
day9 - See Hakone or Fuji 5 Lakes area.
day10- Go to Narita for return home

Actually any day from Day 6-9 could be used to see Fuji. Unfortunately, 2 things: 1) seeing Fuji from partway up it is not picturesque at all. Seeing it from Hakone or the Fuji 5 Lakes is much better. But 2) Weather is often cloudy or foggy and obscures the mountain. So picking the best day from the weather forecast makes the most sense. Even worst case if the weather is bad all days, if you go to Hakone there are other things to see and do. Try reading up on these sites for more info:

Hello there,

There are many possibilities with an open itinerary like this and some great places come to mind.

As an alternative to the above itinerary, I'd recommend making the following trip.

1.) Kansai - Namba
2.) Namba / Osaka
3.) Kyoto
4.) Kyoto
5.) Travel to Kanazawa
6.) Kanazawa
7.) Shinkansen to Tokyo
8.) Tokyo / Day trip to Fuji
9.) Tokyo
10.) Flight home

Personally I find Kanazawa one of th ebest places to visit in Japan. There are many sightseeing places, for instance Kenrokuen, one of the most beautiful Japanese gardens, the local Geisha Quarter and Kanazawa castle. This weekend Kanazawa was connected to Tokyo on the brand new Hokuriku Shinkansen and you could use them to travel back to Tokyo.

Lastly I'd advise making a day trip from Tokyo - Mount Fuji and the Fuji five lake area. You could do so either on day 8 or 9, depending on the weather or you can stay in Tokyo if the weather is not that great and spend your time exploring all that Toyko has to offer.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
