Hello-
We are planning at trip that would include travel between Tokyo, Kyoto, possibly side-trip to Nara, and either a day in Hakone or Atami. Should we get the pass for the whole country or just JR East? and if JR East would work, would it be cheaper?
thanks,
Sarah

Hello there,

The JR East Pass is only valid for the Nagano/Tohoku area. Kyoto, Nara are outside of this area. That's why I would use a 7 day JR Pass here, it will also help you make good savings compared to purchasing normal tickets.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
