Hi,

I'm planning on traveling at the end of March. So far my plan our plan looks like something like this:

Day 1: Arrive Tokyo
Day 2-4: Osaka and Kobe
Day 5-6: Kyoto
Day 7: ??? Traveling from Kyoto to Nagano
Day 8-9: Nagano (Hot Springs)
Day 10-14: Tokyo

From this I have a few questions.

  1. Is this enough time at each location with travel?
  2. Within Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, do metro passes work with the JR Pass?
  3. Should we get a 7 day JR Pass for this type of traveling or individual tickets to places?

Thanks!
Jon

Hi there,

1.) Yes, it is a nice start for each place and works well given the amount of days you have in Japan.

2.) The JR Pass is not valid on any Metro/Subway system, though local JR services are included.

3.) Right now it is somewhat hard to match a 7 day JR Pass to your travels, as you will be traveling more than 7 days. Ideally you would return to Tokyo before the pass expires. This would mean re-planning a little. Normal tickets would be the best option if you leave the itinerary as it is now.

Hope you find this information useful,
Daniel
