We are deciding whether to buy a JR Pass for our trip in June. Our itinerary:
June 19-22: Tokyo
June 22-24: Nara
June 24-28: Kyoto

We will be arriving/departing through Narita.

Questions:
- Should we buy the pass or buy individual tickets for our travel? - If we buy the pass, 7 or 14 day? - Is buying First Class worth the additional cost?

There are two of us; senior citizens so not real agile; we will be toting our carry-on luggage. Appreciate your recommendations!

Hello there,

The normal ticket cost of traveling from Tokyo - Nara - Kyoto - Tokyo will break about even with a 7 day JR Pass. This could make the JR Pass an interesting option if you would want to do a bit of travel travel with it. For instance, it is easy to make a side trip from Kyoto/Nara to Osaka, Kobe or Himeji or even Hiroshima if you are feeling adventurous.

Personally I love traveling Green Class (first class). The main reason I would consider Green Class is that it is much quieter and offers more comfort. At the same time, Ordinary class is fine for most people. It's comfortable and is a step up from economy class on airplanes.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
