Hi guys,

Can you give me an (unbiased haha) viewpoint on whether to buy a JR Pass for this itinerary?

8/1 - Arrive Tokyo
13/1 - Tokyo to Nagano
20/1 - Nagono to Kyoto
25/1 - Kyoto to Tokyo

Would like to include bullet train at least once. And does JR Pass cover basic travel around Tokyo? Such as Asakusa - Disney - Shibuya - Harajuku etc?

Just not sure if a 14 day pass is good value here vs just buying tickets.

Many thanks!
Elliot

Hi Elliot,

Well we love the JR Pass, that's for sure. At the same time we are almost more than happy to check whether the JR Pass is suited for your itinerary.

You'd pay the following prices for normal tickets.

Tokyo - Nagano ¥ 8,000
Nagano - Kyoto ¥ 10,630
Kyoto - Tokyo ¥ 13,400

This is below the cost of a 14 day JR Pass, so for now a normal tickets would be better :) Ofcouse the JR Pass could quickly become worth if plans change and you'd travel a bit more.

Hope that helps,
Daniel
