29/10/15 Tokyo 4 nights
02/11/15 Kanazawa 2 nights
04//11/15 Takayama 2 nights
06/11/15 Matsumoto 1 night
07/11/15 Tsumago 1 night
08/11/15 Kyoto 4 nights
12/11/15 Hiroshima 2 nights
14/11/15 Osaka 2 nights
16/11/15 Hakone 2 nights
18/11/15 Tokyo 1 night

This is my proposed itinerary but not sure about the Takayama/ Matsumoto/ Tsumago section - do you think it will be too much or should I add an extra day and adjust our later itinerary?

We hope to travel out to Nikko on one day from Tokyo and use a Nikko 2 day pass.

We could then use a 14 day JR pass and also the Hakone 3 day pass and pay for the train from Osaka to Odawara.

Many thanks

Hello Maggie15,

I think it looks good, there's enough time in each city to get a feel of the local atmosphere and look at the places worth sightseeing. Although I think 1 more night in Matsumoto could be nice (so you have a full day to see Matsumoto).

A 14 day JR Pass could work very well if you use it from 02/11 to 15/11 and be in Hakone on that day. Additionally you could even consider a 21 day JR Pass. The upgrade from a 14 day JR Pass is only 12,600yen and it is easy to cover this amount of travel within a week. For instance a one way ticket Tokyo - Narita Airport on the Narita Express is around 3,000yen.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
