Hi,

I am going to Japan the 29th of May and I am planning to go to Tokyo (3nights) then Hakone (2nights), then Matsumoto (1night), then Takayama (1night) then kanazawa (1night) then Kyoto (4nights) then back to Tokyo.

I think the JR pass cover all these destinations, could you please confirm? Also if you could confirm the time it takes between each two destination? As for some of them I am staying just one day, I would like to see if it's feasible.
Is there any website where I can see the hours of these trains?

Thanks a lot for your help (I could already find a lot of answers to other questions I was asking myself)

Hi there,

I can confirm that all places destinations are covered by the JR Pass.
Though, a bit of an exemption is Hakone, the JR Pass will cover the bullet train ride to Odawara, the gateway station for Hakone. Local (non JR) trains in Hakone unfortunately don't accept the JR Pass. For this area consider buying a Hakone Free Pass that pretty much covers every kind of transport in the area, you can buy one at Odawara station.

For traveling times, I'd recommend using Hyperdia to check travel times and other route information.

Here are some approximate travel times for your itinerary.

Tokyo -> Odawara: 35 Minutes
Odawara -> Matsumoto 212 Minutes
Matsumoto -> Takayama 255 Minutes
Takayama -> Kanazawa 135 Minutes
Kanazawa -> Kyoto 126 Minutes
Kyoto -> Tokyo 160 minutes

You can also use this map to get a feel for distances involved.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
