Hi there,

While most of the itinerary looks good, there's one point that certainly needs reviewing. That is travel from the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route to Takayama. You will finish the route at Shinano-Omachi if you start near Toyama. The problem is that it is not easy to get from Shinano-Omachi to Takayama. Here's a map to give you an idea of the route. My advise would be to stay near Shinano-Omachi or maybe Matsumoto and travel on the following day.

Nearly all rail travel in your itinerary is covered, only travel from Toyama to and on the Kurobe Alpine route is not included.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you for your quick reply!

Regarding the Kurobe alpine route.. I was thinking of travelling in from Toyama to Tateyama and as far as the Kurobe dam .. then back tracking back to Toyama and down to Takayama. Does that sound ridiculous?
Would you advise a JR pass for the whole itinerary?

Many thanks

Hello again!

Yes that would make more sense. It is hard to say exactly how far you could travel but I think you should consider going back after 3 to 3.5h of travel on the alpine route.

Will you be traveling to Osaka on the 20th? In that case I think a 7 day JR Pass would suit your itinerary best. Given that you'd use it from Nov 20th - Nov 26th.
